Hon. Daniel Oné Ejigbo urges leaders to prioritise public welfare as he questions calls for a second term.

Hon. Daniel Oné Ejigbo (DOE), the NDC candidate for Bassa/Dekina Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, has called for greater accountability and improved public services in Bassa/Dekina and Kogi East.

In his Sunday message to the people, Ejigbo expressed concern over what he described as the deteriorating state of healthcare facilities, schools, roads and other public infrastructure across the area.

He lamented the alleged shortage of drugs in hospitals, inadequate school facilities and the poor condition of roads, arguing that these challenges deserve urgent attention from those in positions of authority.

According to him, residents should be more concerned about tangible improvements in their daily lives than political slogans about securing another term in office.

“Second term is sacrosanct,” he quoted political figures as saying, before asking: “Sacrosanct for who? For them and their families, or for you, the people?”

Ejigbo challenged political leaders seeking another term to account for their performance, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare and road infrastructure.

He argued that four years in office should provide sufficient time for leaders to demonstrate measurable progress in addressing the needs of their constituents.

He questioned the justification for seeking another term without presenting what he considers meaningful achievements in these critical sectors.

Call for Accountability and Responsible Leadership

The NDC candidate maintained that public office should be defined by service delivery, accountability and the welfare of the people rather than the pursuit of political power.

He also cautioned residents against allowing religious, ethnic or financial considerations to overshadow the assessment of leaders’ performance. According to him, political discussions should focus on policies, achievements and practical solutions to the challenges facing communities.

Ejigbo called for an approach to leadership that places the education of children, access to healthcare and improved road networks at the centre of governance.

A Message of Unity for Bassa and Dekina

Beyond infrastructure and public services, Ejigbo emphasised the importance of unity between the people of Bassa and Dekina.

He said his vision is to promote leadership that brings communities together rather than deepening divisions, stressing the need for a shared commitment to development across the federal constituency.

As the 2027 elections approach, his message invites residents to reflect on the state of public services, demand accountability from political officeholders and consider the issues that matter most to their communities.

Concluding his Sunday address, Ejigbo prayed for God’s blessings upon the people and urged them to remain alert to the realities affecting their lives.

“May God bless your Sunday and open our eyes to the truth,” he said, wishing residents a happy Sunday.
